Moving Forward

Dear Friends and Family

We have received so many encouraging words from those who have heard about our future plans, and we are truly grateful for that support. This next step is both exciting and, in our limited human perspective, unsettling.

‍One of the biggest challenges that initially held us back from committing to this next chapter in our lives was the idea of raising support. Even in the early years of our marriage, when we had planned to raise support and enter the mission field, we were not particularly enthusiastic about that part of the process. Now, after 20 years of serving in missions through a different financial model, the thought of raising support feels daunting as we face renting or buying a house, furnishings, purchasing a car and living expenses.

Yet, God has given us peace about this step, and we trust Him to provide.

‍A missionary friend recently reminded me, “It’s just money. There are hearts that need salvation to focus on, don’t worry about the money.” As I have been reading through the book of John in my devotions, those words reminded me of John 6:27: “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”

Please pray for us—that we won’t be tempted to waste energy worrying about the financial side of things, but instead focus on having hearts that reflect Jesus’ words in John 4:34: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”

‍In the verses following those words in John 4, Jesus describes the partnership involved in the harvest. In July, George was able to take a survey trip to a country where Christians are not generally welcome. There, he joined a team of local believers who had passionately begun a sports ministry. These nationals asked Live Global to come and train their people in running a sports camp and to help them set up a soccer academy. George’s experience reflected this spirit of working together to reap the harvest. One of the things that most excited him was the hunger for knowledge that these young men and women showed for not only the sport but also for God and their desire to reach their own people through sports. We are excited about the opportunity to help equip them to reach their community more effectively: to share the gospel, mentor and disciple young believers, and celebrate the harvest God is bringing in.

We are careful about how much to share publicly about George’s trip; however, we did write a blog post summary of it. We would be happy to discuss it with you directly and/or our future ministry.
